Take a married couple travelling to a smallish yet delightful island. Give them a map in hand, a new-found sense of freedom and a vague sense of the places they want to visit then put them in a motor home designed for the vertically challenged for 12 days as they traverse the windy roads. What you get is the trip of a lifetime!
Before we start, I just want to tell you a little about myself (the writer) and my husband. When we decided to take time out to travel to Tasmania we originally went there on a fact finding mission. We have decided it's time to leave the city we have lived in for 20 + years and start anew.
When I was looking at places to re-locate, Tasmania popped up. My husband and I researched this wonderful island for months and months and had pretty much decided this is where we wanted to stay. As they say: The best laid plans and all that.. after visiting we have decided it's probably not for us. Nothing to do with the people or places (it's truly magnificent and the people are just fantastic) but more to do with the work situation. It's off the mainland of Australia and my own thoughts are unless you are in the hospitality industry or a farmer, there's probably not a lot there. I could see us retiring there, however. All too easily!
I recounted day by day where we went and what we did. This was for a few reasons. One: it's been like forever since my husband and I went on a holiday together. We have managed to snatch a day or two away at a time as a break from the everyday hum-drum but never more than that. Child-rearing and earning a living has a way of keeping you grounded in so many ways. Two: I wanted to document this for my own pleasure. Something to look back on and go... we did this, went here, here, and here and loved every single moment and Three:....when I was looking for blogs written by those who had been to Tasmania, either to visit or to settle down, there just wasn't a lot around. I was hungry for more.
I hope you enjoy our account and I also hope, if you are looking for some information or just want to know a little more about Tassie, then maybe you've come to the right place.
